Guyana Amazon Warriors Suffer Back-to-Back Defeats Ahead of CPL Home Leg

Defending champions Guyana Amazon Warriors faced another setback in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2024, losing by five wickets to Trinbago Knight Riders in Port of Spain on Wednesday.

This defeat marked the Warriors’ third loss in the tournament.

Batting first, the Warriors struggled initially, finding themselves at 56 for 4 within just 8.4 overs.

Key players Kevin Sinclair (9), Shai Hope (5), Shimron Hetmyer (7), and Tim Robinson (34) were dismissed early, leaving the team in a precarious position.

However, Romario Shepherd displayed resilience, scoring an unbeaten 51 off 24 balls, supported by Dwaine Pretorius, who contributed 21 runs.

This effort helped the Warriors reach a total of 148 for 7 in their allotted overs.

In response, the Knight Riders managed to chase down the target, finishing with 149 for 5 in 19.2 overs.

Andre Russell played a pivotal role for TKR, remaining not out on 36 runs, alongside Tim David, who scored 31.

Although the Warriors applied pressure by taking five wickets for 89 runs in 15 overs, they couldn’t contain the Knight Riders’ aggressive batting, particularly Russell’s powerful innings.

Nathan Sowter had a notable debut for the Warriors, taking two wickets, while Keemo Paul, Shamar Joseph, and Moeen Ali each claimed one wicket.

As the team looks to regroup, they prepare for their upcoming home matches in the CPL, hoping to turn their fortunes around.
