In an electrifying contest at the National Stadium in Providence, the Guyana Amazon Warriors triumphed over the St. Lucia Kings in Match 29 of the Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League.
Half-centuries from Shimron Hetmyer and Shai Hope were pivotal in leading the Warriors to victory.
Winning the toss and opting to bat, the Warriors showcased their cricketing prowess, amassing a total of 207 runs for the loss of seven wickets, with Hetmyer contributing an impressive 58 runs off 36 balls, including nine fours and one six.
Hope supported him well with a solid 56 runs, featuring two fours and five sixes, as the pair formed a crucial partnership of 85 runs.
Other key contributions came from openers Azam Khan and Rahmanullah Gurbaz, who both scored 26 runs.
On the bowling front for the Kings, veteran David Wiese excelled with figures of three wickets for 42 runs, while Noor Amad and Alzarri Joseph each took two wickets.
Facing a target of 208, the Kings struggled to keep pace with the required run rate, losing wickets at regular intervals due to a disciplined bowling attack from the Warriors.
The spinners, Gudakesh Motie, Imran Tahir, and Moeen Ali, each claimed two wickets, severely undermining the Kings’ batting lineup.
St. Lucia’s captain, Faf du Plessis, managed to score a commendable 92 runs despite suffering a hamstring injury but received little support from his teammates.
Alzarri Joseph and Wiese were the next highest scorers with 25 and 14 runs, respectively.
With this victory, the Guyana Amazon Warriors climbed to the top of the standings with 14 points, edging ahead of the Kings on net run rate.
The Warriors will next face the Trinbago Knight Riders in their final group stage match at the same venue.
