Guyana is establishing itself as a frontrunner in telemedicine, bolstered by substantial government investments aimed at expanding healthcare access in remote regions.

Since 2022, the government has been equipping hinterland telemedicine centers with advanced technology to enhance healthcare delivery.

The initiative includes the deployment of digital stethoscopes, pulse oximeters, infrared thermometers, blood pressure monitors, mobile ultrasounds, and examination cameras.

These tools provide Community Health Workers with 24-hour access to medical specialists at the Georgetown Public Hospital, facilitating faster diagnoses and improving overall healthcare services.

In addition to the existing telemedicine infrastructure, President Irfaan Ali has announced the addition of 25 new telemedicine sites across various hinterland communities.

This expansion aims to further support and improve healthcare accessibility in remote areas.

The first four telemedicine sites were established in Gunns Village, Nappi, Yupukari, and Parikawarinau.

These advancements are part of the government’s broader effort to bridge healthcare gaps and ensure better medical support for all Guyanese, particularly those in underserved regions.
