At the 4th Global Implementation Support Symposium (GISS) 2025 in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, Guyana reaffirmed its commitment to advancing the aviation sector, focusing on integrating artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance its operations.

Leading the delegation, Minister Juan Edghill, who oversees the aviation sector, participated in a Ministerial Roundtable where he emphasized aviation’s pivotal role in economic growth and sustainability.

Minister Edghill highlighted the government’s commitment to strengthening the sector, emphasizing the need to expand aviation infrastructure to serve as a key link between the Caribbean and South America.

He also praised the certification of the country’s aviation training school as an ICAO TrainAir Plus institution.

In addition, Lieutenant Colonel (Ret’d) Egbert Field, Director General of the Guyana Civil Aviation Authority (GCCA), discussed the country’s steps toward implementing AI in aviation.

He noted that while Guyana may not yet have the infrastructure or experts in place, efforts are underway to sensitize the aviation industry on AI’s benefits and collaborate with larger countries to drive the process.

One such measure already in place is the use of electronic embarkation and disembarkation gates at Cheddi Jagan International Airport, which marks a significant step in modernizing the country’s aviation systems.
