A fully booked Castle Hotel in New Amsterdam experienced a devastating fire incident, fortunately leaving all guests unharmed.

The Guyana Fire Service, in collaboration with the Guyana Police Force, is actively investigating the cause of a fire that erupted on the third floor of the Castle Hotel in New Amsterdam on Wednesday.

Divisional Fire Officer, Kirkland Harry, briefed reporters, stating that the fire department received the distress call around 16:30 hours, prompting an immediate dispatch of fire personnel and equipment to the scene.

Upon arrival, firefighters were met with thick smoke engulfing the entire third floor, prompting swift action to contain the blaze.

Unfortunately, the fire had also affected the second floor of the building.

Harry explained that fire crews encountered challenges with water supply initially, but these issues were swiftly resolved, allowing firefighters to continue their efforts to extinguish the flames.

Thankfully, there were no reports of injuries, and all occupants of the hotel were safely evacuated from the premises.

Mayor of New Amsterdam, Wainright McIntosh, expressed gratitude to the Guyana Fire Service for their prompt response and effective containment of the fire to the hotel building.

He emphasized that without their rapid intervention, the fire could have potentially spread to neighboring structures, causing further devastation.

As investigations into the cause of the fire continue, authorities remain vigilant in ensuring the safety and security of the community.
