By Fabiana McKlmon

The Government Technical Institute (GTI) hosted its “Jill of All Trades Day” today, dedicated to promoting females in technical education.

The event aimed to provide women and girls across the country with an opportunity and a safe space to explore and learn more about technical education.

Senior Education Officer of the Ministry of Education, Marks Roberts, commended the initiative, emphasizing the importance of supporting women in technical fields in an era where technology drives progress.

He highlighted how Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) can open doors to new opportunities, financial independence, and contribute to cutting-edge innovations.

Assistant Chief Education Officer, Marcia Paddy-Andrews, emphasized the significance of initiatives like these in promoting gender equality.

She noted that when women and girls have access to education, healthcare, and decision-making roles, society thrives, economies grow, and progress becomes sustainable for all.

During the open day, attendees enjoyed exhibitions of innovative student projects, interacted with booths from numerous companies supporting the initiative, and gained access to information necessary to pursue careers in technical education.

The “Jill of All Trades Day” at GTI underscores the commitment to empowering women in technical fields and fostering gender equality in education and the workforce.
