Following Guyana’s defeat to Trinidad and Tobago at the GDF ground in Camp Ayanganna, Guyana Rugby Football Union (GRFU) President Ryan Dey expressed disappointment and acknowledged the need for strategic reassessment for the country’s 15s team.

Despite the 26-3 loss at home, Dey noted positive signs from the team’s performances in both home and away matches against Trinidad and Tobago.

He attributed the defeat to inexperience but highlighted developmental progress amidst “growing pains.”

Looking ahead, Dey outlined the GRFU’s agenda, particularly focusing on preparations for the national Under-19 and 7s squads.

Notably, the next Rugby Americas North (RAN) annual Sevens tournament is scheduled for November 23-24 in Trinidad and Tobago at the Larry Gomes Stadium in Arima.

In the recent match, Trinidad and Tobago displayed comfort in Guyanese conditions, securing victory decisively with Anderson Joseph’s hat-trick of tries.

Despite Guyana’s early lead through Godfrey Broomes’ penalty, Trinidad and Tobago’s Jonathan Taylor’s try shifted the momentum in their favor.

Christopher Hutson’s accurate penalties further extended their lead, sealing a 26-3 win.

Earlier in April, Guyana had narrowly defeated Trinidad and Tobago 24-23 in Port-of-Spain, showcasing competitive parity between the teams.

The GRFU now faces the challenge of regrouping and strategizing to strengthen Guyana’s rugby prowess, aiming for improved performances in upcoming competitions.
