Grade 3 A Students at Regma Primary School Publish Books, Promoting Literacy

In an impressive display of literary achievement, the Grade 3 A students at Regma Primary School have taken their literacy skills to new heights by publishing their own books.

This groundbreaking initiative has earned praise from the Education Department of Region 10 for being the first of its kind in the area.

The idea to have the students write and compile their own books originated from a remark made by one of the pupils in their class, according to their dedicated teacher, Cambrey Nedd Joseph.

To recognize their remarkable efforts, several young authors were awarded electronic tablets for various categories, including the best storyline, best book cover, best illustration, the judges’ favorite story, and the only Guyanese Creole story.

Selwyn Griffith, the District Education Officer responsible for primary education, commended the initiative and encouraged other schools to replicate this approach to enhance literacy throughout the country.

“It’s the first that I’ve attended. It’s a wonderful gesture. It’s something that I’m gonna sit with Miss Rogers and we’re going to brainstorm how we can replicate it in other areas and how we can convince our powers that this is something we want,” he said.

Each pupil received a backpack with stationery for the new school term and was treated to dinner.
