The Guyana Power & Light has provided an update on works at Enmore, where a new substation is being constructed.

The facility will play an important role in distributing power from the Gas-to-Energy Project.

The substation at Enmore will assist in transmitting electricity generated from the Gas-to Energy project across the East Coast of Demerara.

It will receive power dispatched from the Goedverwagting Substation at 69kV, and break that down to 13.8kV for distribution.

Head of GPL’s Management Team, Kesh Nandlall updated the media on the works being done.

“The Foundation work is almost completed …we would have ordered all the transformers, the are all facture tested, all the engineering work has been completed, and they are already on shipment to come here for the assembling of this new substation,” he said.

Nandlall says this investment will enhance grid reliability and power capacity for consumers throughout Enmore and neighboring communities.

“This substation we are going to bring down the 69 power here, you would have seen those monopolies to bring in the power here we are going to break it down again to 13.8 to supply the new industrial estate plan that is going to happen here in Enmore,” he added.

According to Nandlall, the Enmore substation is 60 percent complete.

It is one of several new substations being constructed to support the distribution of power from the Gas-to-Energy Project – an investment geared at improving reliability and stability of the electricity network.
