The long-term effects of COVID-19 continue to affect the population, with symptoms such as shortness of breath, severe headaches, and breathing problems persisting in many individuals.

In response, Dr. Mahendra Carpen, Head of Medical Services and Cardiology at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC), is advocating for improved lifestyle changes to address these challenges.

Dr. Carpen explained that COVID-19 has impacted nearly all organs in the body, resulting in several post-COVID complications.

While there is no definitive diagnosis for long COVID yet, Dr. Carpen has provided advice for those experiencing lingering symptoms.

He emphasizes the importance of training the brain to cope with these symptoms.

Additionally, Dr. Carpen advises individuals, particularly those with chronic diseases, to adopt healthier diets and engage in regular exercise to manage their conditions better.

Research indicates that approximately 10 to 20 percent of people who contracted COVID-19 will experience persistent symptoms for months after the initial illness.

To improve the detection and treatment of long COVID, about 400 local physicians are being trained by experts from Mount Sinai Hospital.
