The Guyana Police Force (GPF) is taking significant steps towards modernizing its operations by considering the establishment of an air wing.
Acting Police Commissioner Clifton Hicken made this announcement during the force’s 184th Anniversary Award Ceremony, held at the Police Officer’s Mess Eve Leary on Thursday.
To support the creation of the air wing within the GPF, two pilots currently attached to the force are undergoing training in Miami, USA. They have completed their single-engine training and are progressing to the double-engine phase.
Commissioner Hicken mentioned that the air wing could be established jointly with the Guyana Defence Force or as a separate entity.
Regardless of the approach, the GPF is diligently preparing for its establishment.
In addition to the pilots’ training, the GPF is also investing in the necessary engineering expertise.
Two engineers, one male, and one female, are in the advanced stages of their training at the Art Williams and Harry Wendt Aeronautical Engineering School located in Ogle, East Coast Demerara.
The introduction of an air wing signifies a significant step forward for the Guyana Police Force, enabling enhanced capabilities and efficiency in its law enforcement operations.
As the force marks its 184th anniversary, these developments demonstrate its commitment to modernization and improvement in ensuring the safety and security of the nation.
