During a recent career fair at Richard Ishmael Secondary School, the Guyana Police Force (GPF) and Guyana Defence Force (GDF) aimed to attract new recruits by highlighting the benefits of joining the law enforcement fields.
Woman Police Inspector Metchelle Padmore from the GPF spoke about the diverse opportunities available within the force.
She emphasized that joining at a young age could lead to long-term benefits, mentioning the force’s multi-dimensional nature that caters to individuals with various technical skills.
Padmore noted the potential for students leaving high school to work and study simultaneously within the force.
She also stressed the force’s commitment to professional development, where recruits could enter with basic certifications and potentially leave with a Master’s Degree upon retirement.
Representing the GDF, Coast Guard Officer Marlon Adolph highlighted the numerous prospects available for recruits.
He mentioned various units within the GDF, such as the signal core, medical core, coast guard, air core, and infantry.
Adolph emphasized that individuals with diverse skills acquired outside the GDF could enhance and utilize those skills within the force.
Both the GPF and GDF outlined entry requirements for prospective recruits, including being above the age of 18, possessing a police clearance, providing two recent testimonials, presenting a birth certificate, and having academic and/or technical certificates.
