At Monday’s public day event at the Arthur Chung Conference Center, housing was high on the agenda for many citizens.
This was disclosed by the Vice President, Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo. He said the government is working to address the backlog of applications.
Dr. Jagdeo says the government is working to clear the backlog of applications for house by the end of next year. He acknowledged that housing continues to be a priority for citizens.
“Anyone who applied, they would get their house by the end of next year. In Region 4, it will take a little bit longer,” he said.
Meanwhile, the VP outlined several initiatives being implemented to improve the living standards of Guyanese, particularly at the community level.
“These include putting in street lights and security cameras, building concrete drains, and improving waste collection and disposal, with over 50 NDCs already receiving garbage compactors. As you have seen, we already bought compactors for almost all the NDCs and the townships, and now we are preparing places for people to take the garbage, because some of the NDCs have to travel a long distance,” he explained.
Dr. Jagdeo says nearly 90,000 street lights and 2,000 security cameras will be installed across the villages and city wards to strengthen public safety.
