-unregistered migrants face deportation

Migrants are being urged to apply for the Electronic Identification Card being implemented by the Government, which is expected to begin within the next month.

According to Minister of Home Affairs Oneidge Walrond, this move is all part of Government’s plan to strengthen monitoring of migrants in Guyana.

The Minister also stated that migrants should take advantage of the grace period being offered, as penalties will be imposed on those who fail to comply.

The registration is expected to begin very soon.

This move is part of a broader effort by Government to enhance national security and ensure better migration management as the country continues to record an influx of migrants, particularly from neighbouring Venezuela.
