Guyanese no longer have to apply for a tint permit, but the removal of the waiver system does not give motorists the right to excessively darken their vehicles.
Under the new framework, motorists will be allowed to use a standard level of tint on their windows, while the front windshield must carry a noticeably lighter shade that still provides protection from the sun.

Any tint that is darker than the approved levels will be persons who have been exempted as they will have special permission from the authorities, including but not limited to persons with medical conditions, which will have to be certified, security personnel, government officials, diplomats and others.
Users of extremely dark tints have until December 31 to comply. After that, the law will be enforced.
Minister of Home Affairs, Oneidge Walrond’s decision follows a flood of tint waiver requests on her first day and police data showing no link between tint and crime.
The Ministry also noted that due to climate change and UV exposure, tints are essential for health and comfort.
