The Ministry of Human Services and Social Security is turning potential into prosperity, equipping local women with $300,000 grants each, as well as professional kits to build their own business empires.
The ministry today handed over specialized business kits and hundreds of thousands of dollars in grants, to a group of female entrepreneurs, reinforcing the Government’s plan to foster female empowerment.
In a collaboration between the Ministry and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), these at risk women were awarded $300,000 each in business grants at the Uman Yana. Subject Minister Vindhya Persaud noted that these grants will empower the women to take advantage of economic opportunities. She also assured that the Ministry has been with them every step of the way.
“They would have not have been just selected for this, they would have being on a journey, where work would have being done through the Guyana leadership institute, who worked with them from the moment they decided they wanted an entrepreneurship adventure,” she said.
Meanwhile, twenty of the women who completed the Women’s Innovation and Investment Network (WIIN) program across the ten administrative regions received business kits. The entrepreneurs were in high praise of the initiative, noting the support it will give them to establish their businesses in the digital era.
Shereze Wong told NCN: “I have completed the graphic design course and I am very thankful for this initiative that the government has made because it will not only impact me but my community.”
Christina Benjamin, another entrpreneur, said, “I would have completed the introduction course in graphics designing, and the business package is going to assist me with my business because I am already a registered business owner.”
