In a significant development for the Matarkai sub-district of Region One, the government’s Hinterland Housing Programme is set to construct thirty houses, according to Minister of Housing and Water, Collin Croal.
The housing project will be implemented in 4 Mile, Arakaka, and Canal Bank, fulfilling a commitment to enhance the standard of living and foster sustainable development in remote communities.
The initiative, part of the Hinterland Housing Programme, aims to assist approximately 300 households in hinterland communities spanning Regions One, Seven, Eight, and Nine.
The transparent allocation process involves the selection of recipients by village councils and residents, ensuring an impartial and community-driven approach.
Minister Croal also highlighted the government’s investment in the water sector, focusing on the construction of 13 treatment plants.
Seven of these plants are already underway in Regions Two, Three, and Four, with the goal of enhancing service levels.
Additionally, efforts are underway to drill several wells to improve access to potable water across the country.
Minister Croal affirmed that the 2024 program will bring the construction of more wells, benefiting numerous communities.
This housing and water infrastructure development is a testament to the government’s commitment to addressing the needs of remote communities and fostering sustainable growth.
