Minister of Sport Charles Ramson Jr. has announced government support for the country’s medalists from the recently concluded CARIFTA Games.

During Tuesday’s welcome reception for the athletes who competed in the CARIFTA Games, Minister Ramson revealed plans to provide support to all medal winners.

Since the inception of the CARIFTA Games in 2022, medalists have automatically been enrolled in the government’s stipend program, ensuring ongoing support for their athletic endeavors.

Building on this foundation, Minister Ramson announced the establishment of an elite training program for the athletes.

Overseas coaches will work closely with local talents to enhance their skills and performance, providing them with access to world-class training and expertise.

The minister emphasized that preparations for this elite training program had been underway since last year, underscoring the government’s commitment to investing in the development of Guyana’s athletic potential.

All athletes who competed in the CARIFTA Games will benefit from this program, further enhancing their capabilities and competitiveness on the international stage.

In addition to the elite training program, Minister Ramson announced that in August of this year, a team of Olympic medalists will visit Guyana to conduct an intensive training program with local athletes.

This initiative aims to provide athletes with valuable insights and guidance from seasoned professionals, empowering them to reach new heights in their athletic careers.

Guyana’s performance at the CARIFTA Games was commendable, with the country securing eight medals, including four gold, two silver, and two bronze.

This achievement underscores the talent and potential of Guyanese athletes and highlights the importance of continued support and investment in their development.

As Guyana strives to nurture and cultivate its athletic talent, initiatives like the elite training program and collaborations with international experts are essential steps towards achieving success on the global sporting stage.
