The Government of Guyana is set to invest three billion dollars in the construction of a four-lane bridge at Stanleytown, located on the West Bank of Demerara.
This development is part of a broader effort to improve infrastructure in the area, which will also include the construction of new roads and the rehabilitation of drainage systems.
The project will see the construction of 5 kilometers of road from La Grange to Patentia, alongside the rehabilitation of 3.5 kilometers of drainage.
The work will be carried out by GAICO Construction and General Services Inc., a regional contractor based in Region 3.
In a recent engagement with residents, Public Works Minister Juan Edghill emphasized the importance of traffic control during construction, urging local government bodies and residents to work together to inform schools, businesses, and communities about the project’s progress.
Minister Edghill highlighted the need for cooperation to ensure the success of the project and minimize disruptions.
Regional Chairman Ishan Ayube also expressed the importance of reducing the impact on local livelihoods during construction.
In response, GAICO’s CEO, Komal Singh, assured that the company would take measures to minimize disruption by creating a single lane for traffic and working during night hours to reduce congestion.
The project will not only include the new four-lane bridge but will also address the collapse of the road at Sisters, with the necessary rehabilitation works.
A temporary bridge has been put in place while the main bridge is under construction.
The entire project is expected to be completed within 18 months, with the Stanleytown bridge expected to be finished in approximately six months.
