Government Technical Institute (GTI) Marks 72nd Graduation Ceremony with 398 Graduates

The Government Technical Institute (GTI) recently celebrated its 72nd graduation exercise and prize-giving ceremony at the National Culture Center in Georgetown.

The event honored a total of 398 students who received certificates across various disciplines, including Business, Electrical, and Computer Science.

One of the key highlights was the commendable performance of GTI students in the Guyana Technical Education Examination, where 301 students participated, leading to an overall pass rate of 61%.

Notably, the Business Department emerged as the Most Outstanding and Most Improved Department for the academic year 2022/2023, achieving an impressive pass rate of 91%.

The ceremony recognized the outstanding achievements of two students, Ashad Allie and Aaron Xavier, who jointly secured the Valedictorian position for the year 2023.

Both excelled in the Building Department, specializing in Building and Civil Engineering, and earned distinctions in their respective fields.

GTI’s offerings also include Competency-Based Education and Training, with 214 students graduating with the Caribbean Vocational Qualification at Levels One and Two for the 2022 cohort.

Additionally, 184 traditional students graduated during the academic year 2022/2023, contributing to the overall graduation count of 398.

Renita Crandon Duncan, the Principal of GTI, expressed the institution’s pride in producing skilled graduates who are poised to contribute significantly to Guyana’s development.

She emphasized the importance of sending out graduates with practical skills that would propel Guyana forward on the global stage.

Looking ahead to the academic year 2023/2024, GTI maintains a robust enrollment of 1,828 students, reflecting the ongoing commitment to providing technical education and fostering human development in the country.

The graduation ceremony showcased the achievements and aspirations of the graduating class as they embark on their professional journeys.
