In response to the persistent power outages affecting Guyana, the government, led by General Secretary of the People’s Progressive Party, Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo, has unveiled a comprehensive plan to tackle the issue head-on.
During a press conference at Freedom House, Robb Street, Dr. Jagdeo addressed the pressing concerns facing citizens and businesses due to the unreliable electricity supply.
He announced that Guyana Power and Light (GPL) would be installing additional generators by the weekend to bolster the current capacity and minimize disruptions.
Moreover, Dr. Jagdeo revealed that negotiations were underway with Karpowership, a renowned Turkish company specializing in providing electricity through power ships.
The government is working towards securing a two-year contract with Karpowership to supply energy to Guyana.
Most contractual details have been finalized, and the arrival of the power ship in Everton, Berbice, is anticipated in the coming weeks.
In addition to these immediate measures, Dr. Jagdeo emphasized the government’s proactive approach in procuring new power generators to meet the growing demand for electricity.
He assured the public that the Gas to Energy project, coupled with the redistribution of purchased generators to other regions, would contribute to a lasting solution to Guyana’s energy challenges.
With these initiatives in place, Dr. Jagdeo expressed confidence in the government’s ability to mitigate power outages and ensure the nation’s energy security.
