The government has surpassed the 40,000 mark in housing allocations, with plans to exceed its five-year target of 50,000 house lots by the end of this year.

The Central Housing and Planning Authority (CH&PA) is actively securing new lands to facilitate this expansion.

Minister of Housing and Water, Collin Croal, stated that 2024 was the most successful year for housing allocations, contributing 27% of the total lots distributed over the past four years.

The majority of allocations were concentrated in Regions Three and Four, with Region Four receiving 61% and Region Three accounting for 22%.

Allocations in other regions remained in single-digit percentages.

The government emphasized its commitment to inclusivity, with 46% of allocations granted to women, 26% as joint applications, and 28% to male applicants.

To address the ongoing demand, the CH&PA is working on acquiring additional lands.

New allocations are already being prepared for the East Coast of Demerara, while Region Six saw resumed allocations in Molsen Creek after a temporary pause.

The government is collaborating with the Guyana Sugar Corporation (GuySuCo) to acquire and survey more lands for future housing developments.

Minister Croal indicated that new locations for housing will be announced in due course.
