Farmers and residents of Annai Village, Region 9, are set to receive continued agricultural support from the government following a ministerial outreach over the weekend.

During his visit to the North Rupununi village, Minister of Agriculture Zulfikar Mustapha engaged with residents and outlined several upcoming initiatives.

Among their concerns was the need for planting materials, to which the minister pledged the delivery of 50,000 to 60,000 pounds of cassava within two weeks.

Additionally, the National Agricultural Research and Extension Institute (NAREI) will conduct training and soil testing in Annai to enhance agricultural productivity.

Recognizing the critical role of women in agriculture, Minister Mustapha also committed resources to the community’s Women’s Agriculture Group.

This includes farine pans, baking pans, and other cooking equipment, as well as the construction of a poultry pen with 500 birds, to be facilitated by the Guyana Livestock Development Authority (GLDA).

Further infrastructural developments are also on the horizon, with a well and road works scheduled for next year.

During the outreach, farmers received essential agricultural inputs, including ant bait, coconut and fruit tree seedlings, seeds, fertilizers, and gardening tools, all aimed at boosting production.
