In a significant move to sustainably manage and grow the extractive industries, the Government of Guyana has signed a $1.9 million US dollar contract with the US-based company, Global Venture Consulting Inc.
The contract aims to enhance mineral mapping efforts across key mining districts in the country.
The mineral mapping project will utilize advanced, non-destructive techniques to detect and analyze mineral deposits on and beneath the Earth’s surface.
This aligns with Guyana’s Low Carbon Development Strategy, emphasizing low-impact mining and improved planning in mineralized areas.
Global Venture Consulting Inc. will begin its work in the North-West Mining District, Cuyuni Mining District, Mazaruni Mining District, and Potaro Mining District this year.
The initiative is expected to significantly boost the identification of mineral-rich areas, enhancing production efficiency and environmental sustainability.
Emily King, CEO of Global Venture Consulting Inc., highlighted the importance of the project, stating, “By the end of the discovery process, we anticipate substantial improvements in mineral identification and extraction planning.”
Natural Resources Minister Vickram Bharrat stressed the government’s commitment to expanding the mining industry while safeguarding the environment.
“Mining is the second highest contributor to our GDP. We must balance growth with environmental stewardship,” said Minister Bharrat.
The data generated from this mineral mapping will allow the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission to update geological maps, facilitating more efficient planning and extraction of gold and other minerals.
