The Guyanese Government has successfully secured funding from the Inter-American Development Bank and Islamic Development Bank to initiate significant rehabilitation efforts along the East Bank corridor and Soesdyke Linden Highway.
With the ongoing construction activities in Guyana, the East Bank corridor has been experiencing substantial traffic and infrastructural challenges due to the high volume of sand transportation.
Public Works Minister Juan Edghill disclosed that measures are underway to address this issue with the assistance of a loan from the IDB. However, these upgrades will only proceed once alternative bridges are completed in the Diamond/Grove and Craig areas on the East Bank of Demerara.
Minister Edghill further revealed that discussions are in progress to develop a four-lane road extending from Timehri Police station to the Soesdyke Linden Highway.
These enhancements, including the upgrade of main thoroughfares and the establishment of connector roads, are anticipated to reduce travel time and enhance safety for all road users. Minister Edghill also emphasized the importance of responsible and sober driving behavior on the country’s roadways.
