Despite ongoing efforts to manage Dengue cases in Guyana, Health Minister Dr. Frank Anthony has revealed plans to enhance preventative measures, including the procurement of vaccines.
Minister Anthony acknowledges the proactive stance of the government in reducing Dengue cases.
However, he highlights the potential procurement of a vaccine that covers all four Dengue types, albeit at a significant cost.
While this avenue is under exploration, the Ministry has employed other strategies to curb the spread of Dengue, such as fogging, spraying, and the use of larvicides like Abate to eliminate breeding sites.
Additionally, rapid tests have been deployed for prompt diagnosis and treatment.
In 2023, Guyana witnessed a notable increase in Dengue cases, with over 27,000 tests conducted and 7,900 confirmed cases by year-end.
