The Government of Guyana is expanding its agro-processing sector through a strategic partnership with a European group to establish a pork processing facility.
Vice President Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo announced the collaboration, emphasizing the project’s potential to serve both domestic and export markets.
This initiative aims to enhance Guyana’s agricultural value chain by setting up a factory that will process pork-based products such as sausages and bacon.
The move is part of a broader strategy to diversify the economy, create jobs, and increase productivity within the agro-processing sector.
Vice President Jagdeo outlined the government’s plans to ensure a steady supply of pork for the facility, which will not only meet the domestic demand but also explore export opportunities.
The government also plans to invest in agro-processing projects, especially those outside the capital city of Georgetown, in efforts to decentralize economic development across the country.
This collaboration with the European group is expected to strengthen Guyana’s agro-processing capabilities and open new international markets for local agricultural exports.
