Residents of Region Six have warmly welcomed recent government efforts to improve their communities, following a two-day outreach conducted by Finance Minister Dr. Ashni Singh over the weekend.
During the visit, Dr. Singh announced that over $400 million has been dedicated to upgrading community grounds in Region Six.
This funding has been utilized to enhance local infrastructure, including the distribution of 20 tractor-drawn slashers and 5 tractor lawnmowers.
Notable beneficiaries of this initiative include the communities of Kildonan and Eversham on the Corentyne.
Dr. Singh emphasized that the total investment in the region now exceeds $478 million, surpassing the initial budgeted amount.
This substantial funding reflects the government’s commitment to improving community facilities and infrastructure.
In response to criticisms suggesting that the outreach had political motives, Dr. Singh reaffirmed the government’s dedication to consistent and community-focused development since taking office in August 2020.
He asserted that these efforts are part of a broader approach to governance that prioritizes the needs of the populace.
Residents have expressed their appreciation for the improvements, highlighting enhancements in community roads, drainage systems, irrigation services, and agricultural support.
They also noted the positive impact of the reopened sugar industry, which is expected to benefit local livelihoods.
Overall, the outreach has been well-received, with many residents acknowledging the positive changes brought about by the government’s initiatives.
