Government Ministers Unite to Address Nation Amid Border Controversy

As tensions rise over the Guyana/Venezuela border controversy, several government ministers have come together to deliver messages of comfort and reassurance to the Guyanese people.

The messages aim to foster unity and solidarity as the date of the Venezuelan referendum approaches.

Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and Governance, Gail Teixeira, urged citizens to draw strength from the endurance of the first peoples and descendants of enslaved and indentured servants who contributed to the peace enjoyed by Guyana.

She emphasized the importance of standing firm in the defense of Guyana’s territory, asserting that Essequibo belongs to the nation based on firm legal principles.

In his message, Minister of Natural Resources, Vickram Bharrat, provided a historical context to the controversy and called on Guyanese to demonstrate patriotism during upcoming public sensitization and unity activities.

Minister Bharrat encouraged citizens to participate in national events, including the Day of Prayer, Circle of Unity, Multi-Religious Day, and Night of Patriotic Reflection, scheduled from Friday, December 1, to Sunday, December 3.

The government’s effort to bring together ministers from different portfolios underscores a unified front in addressing the concerns and anxieties of the Guyanese population during this critical period.
