Citizens now have the convenience of applying for old age pension and public assistance through an online portal, eliminating the need for physical visits to the ministry or its agencies.
The newly introduced online application portal replaces the traditional method of physically filing applications for old age pension and public assistance.
While the use of the online facility is optional, individuals still have the choice to file paperwork in person if preferred.
Minister of Human Service and Social Security, Hon Dr. Vindhya Persaud, highlighted that the transition to online processing aims to significantly reduce delivery time by 50%.
Moreover, the portal offers an interface for communication and a tracking mechanism for applicants to monitor the progress of their applications.
The online portal will undergo a pilot phase in regions 1, 4, and 7 and includes features tailored to accommodate persons living with disabilities.
Dr. Persaud emphasized the importance of encouraging usage of the online facility, particularly by the youth assisting senior citizens in the application process.
With this streamlined approach, Dr. Persaud anticipates a reduction in both application and waiting times for old age pension and public assistance.
It is advised that individuals apply for old age pension approximately six weeks before reaching the age of 65.
The launch of the online application portal marks a significant step towards improving accessibility and efficiency in accessing government services.
