Government Is Making Efforts to Clear Passport Backlog

President Dr. Irfaan Ali

President Dr. Irfaan Ali has announced significant steps to address the backlog of passports in Guyana.

A dedicated team has been mobilized to work around the clock with the target of processing over 5,000 passports by the upcoming Friday.

This initiative also includes the processing of 400 passports for the diaspora.

The President acknowledged the concerns of citizens who have experienced prolonged wait times for passport issuance.

He attributed this delay to a global shortage of passports. However, he reassured that measures have been put in place to rectify the situation.

Approximately, there are 4,048 passports pending processing at the Central Immigration and Passport Office in Georgetown.

Additionally, there are 900 in Berbice, 102 in Linden, 103 in Anna Regina, 45 in Parika, and five in Bartica.
