The government continues its commitment to the development of indigenous communities, as Finance Minister Dr. Ashni Singh handed over essential machinery valued at $21 million to the Moraikobai Village Council.
The mini excavator and front-end loader, recently presented to Moraikobai, are part of the government’s broader $3 billion commitment to development projects in Amerindian communities nationwide.
Of this allocation, Moraikobai is set to benefit from $46 million, with $21 million utilized for the purchase of these valuable machines.
Minister Singh emphasized the government’s dedication to enhancing infrastructure, particularly by initiating the upgrading of the trail connecting Moraikobai and Linden.
The remaining funds will support this trail enhancement project.
In addition to the machinery, Minister Singh highlighted several interventions aimed at ensuring connectivity in Moraikobai.
These include the construction of a barge for goods transportation, resources for an ICT hub, tourism infrastructure improvement, a storage bond, and upgrades to the village council office.
Minister Singh expressed the government’s goal of fostering a dynamic and competitive village economy in Moraikobai, leveraging its strategic location on the Mahaicony River.
The initiatives undertaken aim to enhance the overall well-being of the Moraikobai people.
Toshao Dereck John of Moraikobai acknowledged the significance of the machinery in advancing the village’s agriculture sector.
The newly commissioned equipment is expected to contribute significantly to the community’s development.
