Government Initiates Agro-Processing Plan to Boost Local Products

The government of Guyana is formulating a comprehensive agro-processing plan aimed at fostering agro-business incubators and programs to enhance agro-tourism.

This initiative is part of efforts to showcase local products prominently at major international airports.

President Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali has underscored the importance of these agro-business incubators in enabling local agro processors to elevate the quality and expand the range of their products.

Central to this strategy is the establishment of “Guyana Shop” corners at prominent international airports such as JFK in the US and Pearson International in Canada.

President Ali emphasized that while expanding shelf space and enhancing branding in global markets, it is imperative that Guyanese products meet the highest standards of quality.

He expressed confidence in the uniqueness of Guyanese products, believing they have the potential to attract substantial revenue.

Looking ahead, President Ali outlined plans to establish processing facilities in every region of Guyana, focusing on producing specialized goods based on regional competitive advantages.

Additionally, collaborations with the Guyana Manufacturing and Services Association (GMSA) are underway to improve processing techniques and packaging standards.
