The number of Guyanese returning home has been steadily rising, with many being drawn back by government incentives that ease their transition and encourage contributions to the country’s development.
According to Rosalinda Rasul, the head of the Diaspora Unit, the remigration numbers have more than doubled in the past five years, from 203 in 2020 to 408 in 2024.
These incentives, which include duty-free concessions on personal household items and vehicles, are particularly appealing to skilled professionals, business owners, and investors looking to resettle and re-establish themselves in Guyana.
While the official statistics only account for those who have applied for remigration benefits, Rasul noted that many others are quietly returning, particularly from neighboring countries like Venezuela and Suriname.
The growing number of remigrants is positively impacting key sectors, as their skills, investments, and expertise play a crucial role in shaping the nation’s future and contributing to its economic growth.
