The Government of Guyana continues to prioritize the development of its education sector, with over 4,000 teachers trained in the past four years.

This brings the total number of trained educators in the country’s education system to 15,000, underscoring the government’s commitment to improving the quality of education.

Minister of Education, Priya Manickchand, in her Year-in-Review report, highlighted ongoing efforts to strengthen the teaching workforce.

A key measure has been the recruitment of experienced teachers to ensure classrooms are led by qualified professionals.

The government has made significant progress in attracting skilled educators, with notable hires such as Ingrid Fung, a matriarch in the field, who is now working as a consultant to improve literature and English instruction for CSEC.

Manickchand also mentioned the engagement of other experienced professionals, such as Mr. Chase and Mr. Hatton, to further enhance training efforts.

The Minister emphasized the importance of a well-trained and capable teaching staff for the success of the education system.

In addition to hiring experienced teachers, the Ministry is actively promoting further training and educational opportunities for teachers.

This includes providing avenues for teachers to pursue degrees at the University of Guyana without disrupting their classroom responsibilities.

By focusing on human resource development, the government aims to create a more effective learning environment that benefits both educators and students, addressing key challenges and fostering success in the education system.
