The National Procurement and Tender Administration Board (NPTA) recently conducted a training session for private sector representatives in Region 2.

Finance Minister Dr. Ashni Singh, who attended the event, emphasized the government’s commitment to improving the nation’s procurement system.

During the training, Dr. Singh highlighted ongoing efforts to ensure good governance, accountability, and transparency in project selection, awarding, and execution.

He stressed the importance of a robust procurement process to encourage investment and expansion in the region while maintaining strict adherence to procurement rules.

Dr. Singh reflected on past challenges, noting that the introduction of the Procurement Act under the leadership of then-President Bharrat Jagdeo marked a significant step towards a more transparent system.

He underscored that the current administration is focused on reinforcing the legal framework governing public procurement, following a period when previous compliance measures were weakened.

The session also covered legal requirements for bidding and procurement, aiming to ensure that tendering authorities adhere to the Procurement Act and its regulations.
