President Irfaan Ali has announced that the government is seriously considering the construction of a fixed bridge across the Berbice River to accommodate the anticipated economic expansion.

The announcement was made during the sod-turning ceremony for the New Amsterdam hospital.

President Ali mentioned that discussions are underway with the Berbice Bridge Company Incorporated regarding the plan for the region.

However, specific details about the project were not provided at this stage.

While no definite timeframe was given for the implementation of the project, President Ali assured that the plan would be put in place soon.

Additionally, President Ali revealed that Guyana and Suriname are in the final stages of signing a contract for the construction of a bridge over the Corentyne River to connect both countries.

Meanwhile, the construction of the new Demerara River Bridge is progressing smoothly and is expected to be completed by the end of the current year.

This move reflects the government’s commitment to infrastructure development, aiming to facilitate economic growth and enhance connectivity in the region.
