The government remains committed to the completion of the Gas-to-Energy (GTE) project despite ongoing challenges, including arbitration disputes and equipment delivery delays.
At his weekly press conference on Thursday, PPP General Secretary and Vice President Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo acknowledged that while the project has experienced setbacks, efforts are being made to mitigate their impact.
The timeline for completion may be affected, but the government is actively planning for the project’s long-term success.
Earlier this year, a dispute between the government and the GTE contractor, Lindsayca/CH4, resulted in a ruling that required details of the conflict to remain confidential.
Both parties were given 28 days to determine whether they would proceed with full arbitration.
The government is expected to make a decision by the end of the month and will inform the public accordingly.
In the meantime, the government has moved forward with plans to strengthen the project’s execution by shortlisting Siemens Energy, a leading German company, to manage the power plant component in Wales, Region Three.
The partnership aims to enhance operational efficiency and ensure the plant delivers reliable energy once completed.
The Gas-to-Energy project is expected to play a key role in the country’s energy transformation, with the government maintaining that, despite delays, the project remains on track for completion.
