As Guyana marks Labour Day, Minister Joseph Hamilton reaffirms the government’s dedication to investing in sector-based training to enhance workers’ skills and employment opportunities.

Speaking at the Workers’ Day observance, Minister Hamilton highlighted the importance of initiatives like the programmes offered by the Board of Industrial Training (BIT) in equipping the country’s workforce with technical expertise.

These programmes have successfully trained hundreds of individuals in various fields such as construction, cosmetology, and electricity.

Minister Hamilton emphasized the need for workers to capitalize on opportunities provided by both the public and private sectors to innovate and enhance their skill sets.

He stressed that training should not just be for the sake of it but should involve thoughtful consideration towards making activities more efficient and productive.

Furthermore, the minister urged citizens to carefully consider their career paths, emphasizing the importance of choosing professions aligned with current and future demands in the job market.

He cautioned against pursuing fields that may not offer viable employment prospects, urging individuals to pay attention to professions that are currently in demand, especially those of a technical nature.

Labour Day serves as a moment for reflection on the progress made by the country’s working class and an opportunity to strategize for further improvements in working conditions.
