Government Announces $150 Million Road Development Project for Mocha Arcadia

By Josiah Williams

Residents of Mocha Arcadia on the East Bank of Demerara are set to benefit from a significant infrastructure boost, as the government has allocated an additional $150 million for road development in the community.

This announcement follows a recent community meeting with several government ministers, where Vice President Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to addressing local concerns.

Minister within the Ministry of Public Works, Deodat Indar, revealed that the funds will be used to rehabilitate seven key roads in the area, including extensions and continuations of several streets such as Nelson, Plantation Prosperity, Palm Street, Morning Glory, and five cross streets near the local health centre.

This new investment builds on the $400 million already spent on road improvements in Mocha Arcadia.

The procurement process for these roadworks is underway, with plans to involve both contractors and community members in the project.

In addition to road improvements, Agriculture Minister Zulfikar Mustapha announced the forthcoming installation of a permanent pump for the community, a project expected to enhance local drainage.

This development comes as part of President Irfaan Ali’s broader commitment to improve infrastructure in Mocha Arcadia.

The new pump, expected within a month, will support local agriculture by improving water management.

The Ministry of Agriculture will also continue to assist farmers with bed raising, drainage, and the provision of planting materials.

Furthermore, Ministers Sonia Parag and Kwame McCoy assured residents that additional training programs would be introduced to support skill development within the community.

These initiatives reflect the government’s ongoing efforts to transform Mocha Arcadia through significant infrastructure and community support investments.
