President Dr. Irfaan Ali has announced that the government of Guyana is actively working towards completing all road projects on the island of Wakenaam by 2025.
This initiative is part of a broader plan aimed at enhancing the quality of life for the island’s residents, with a particular focus on the youth population.
Since assuming office in August 2020, the People’s Progressive Party Civic government has invested approximately 4.5 million dollars per individual residing on Wakenaam.
President Irfaan Ali revealed that this figure is expected to increase to 6 million dollars by the end of 2023, encompassing expenditures on the construction, rehabilitation, and completion of roads across the island.
During the commissioning ceremony for the Arthurville Primary School, President Ali emphasized the careful planning behind these initiatives, intending to create greater opportunities for the island’s inhabitants.
He expressed confidence that the efforts underway would significantly improve the island’s infrastructure, making it better than ever before.
As part of the commitment to improving educational facilities, President Ali announced a 2.5 million dollars allocation to the Neighbourhood Democratic Council for the upgrading of Arthurville Primary School’s compound.
The project will be undertaken by the Men on Mission advocacy group.
The commissioning ceremony also marked the official opening of the state-of-the-art $84 million Arthurville Primary School on Wakenaam Island, Region Three.
President Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali and Minister of Education, Priya Manickchand, were present at the event.
These initiatives underscore the government’s dedication to holistic development, addressing infrastructure, education, and overall community enhancement on Wakenaam Island.
