The government is making notable strides in Region Five, targeting full access to treated water by the end of 2024.

During a recent visit, Susan Rodrigues, the Minister within the Ministry of Housing and Water, outlined the government’s plans for this initiative.

Key to this effort is the upgrade of the Cotton Tree water treatment plant, which is nearing completion at 80%.

The government is investing over $400 million in this project, which is vital for enhancing both water quality and accessibility in the region.

Rodrigues emphasized that the approach involves a detailed strategy that includes upgrading the existing treatment plant and extending the distribution mains.

Additionally, a new treatment facility is set to be built at Bath, with an allocation of approximately $2 billion.

This facility is projected to serve around 43% of Region Five residents, significantly increasing the area’s water supply.

Construction of the new treatment plant at Bath is expected to begin soon, with an estimated completion time of 18 months.

These projects are part of a larger plan to improve water infrastructure along the coast, alongside the installation of several smaller treatment facilities in various communities to further enhance the water supply system in the region.
