The government has successfully rectified all instances of overpayment related to contracts, as confirmed during the recent handing over of the Auditor General’s report for the fiscal year ending 2023.
Auditor General Deodat Sharma disclosed this information at a ceremony attended by Speaker of the House Manzoor Nadir.
Sharma stated, “Following last year where there was an issue of overpayment, this year all overpayments were recovered.”
This announcement underscores the government’s commitment to accountability within its agencies.
Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee, Jermaine Figuera, and Member Minister Juan Edghill commended the timely submission of the report, emphasizing the importance of holding the government accountable for its financial dealings.
Edghill noted that the media has a critical role in scrutinizing the report to ensure transparency and public trust in the accountability framework.
The Auditor General’s report will be made public following its tabling in the National Assembly during the next session.
Additionally, two Performance Audit Reports were submitted, focusing on the Management of Maternal Health Care Services at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) and a Review of the Design and Implementation of the Women’s Innovation and Investment Network (WIIN) Programme.
