In a hard-fought match at the National Track and Field Facility, Leonora, the Golden Jaguars emerged victorious against the Bahamas in their Concacaf Nations League encounter.
Coming off a dominant 5-1 victory against Antigua and Barbuda in their opening match of group D, expectations were high for the Golden Jaguars as they faced the Bahamas.
The game kicked off with Guyana appearing a bit cautious, struggling to create meaningful opportunities in the early stages.
Bahamas seized the chance to gain the upper hand, earning a penalty which was expertly converted by Wood Julmis in the 39th minute.
However, just before the close of the first half, the Golden Jaguars equalized with an impressive goal from an Omari Glasgow corner in the 44th minute.
The second half saw Guyana take control, with Stephen Duke-McKenna delivering a well-placed shot from a distance to give the team a 2-1 lead in the 54th minute.
Shortly after, Kelsey Benjamin extended Guyana’s advantage, scoring the third goal in the 58th minute.
As time ticked away, Bahamas managed to pull one back with Julmis converting another penalty in the 86th minute, setting the stage for a tense final few minutes.
However, the Golden Jaguars maintained their composure, securing a hard-fought 3-2 victory when the final whistle blew.
With this win, Guyana currently occupies the second spot in Group D of League B, trailing behind Puerto Rico.
The teams are set to face off on October 14 in what promises to be another thrilling matchup.
