The Golden Jaguars are set to begin their Concacaf Nations League A campaign with a highly anticipated match against Suriname on September 5 at the National Track and Field Facility in Leonora.

Scheduled for a 16:00 kick-off, this match marks Guyana’s debut in League A, a step up in competition.

Defenders Jeremy Garrett and Collin Nelson, two key players in the national squad, expressed their excitement and readiness for the challenge.

Garrett, who plays for Slingerz FC, emphasized the importance of fitness and match preparedness after the local league season.

He noted that the exposure and game time the team gained during the league will be crucial as they join forces with overseas-based players to give Guyana a competitive edge in the upcoming Nations League matches.

Collin Nelson, representing the Guyana Defence Force (GDF), highlighted his focus on leadership and the momentum gained from winning the local league.

He aims to bring the same drive and determination to the national team, pushing his teammates to perform at their best.

Guyana and Suriname have a long-standing rivalry, having faced each other 27 times in official matches.

The teams are evenly matched, with Guyana securing six wins and six draws.

The upcoming game promises to be a closely contested battle, with the Golden Jaguars hoping to leverage their home advantage and the inclusion of rising star Isai Jones to start their campaign on a positive note.

This match is a critical opportunity for the Golden Jaguars to showcase their progress and build hope for their Nations League journey.
