GNBS Takes Strong Action Against Substandard Products

The Guyana National Bureau of Standards (GNBS) recently conducted a significant operation to seize and destroy various substandard items, as part of their routine inspections.

The items, including electrical products, matches, and cigarettes, were confiscated by GNBS inspectors.

The electrical products comprised plugs, strips, extension cords, circuit breakers, and lamp holders.

Head of Product and Compliance Department, Quincy Troyer, highlighted issues like missing manufacturing and expiration dates and pictures on these products.

During the operation, over 12,000 electrical products, close to 5,000 packages of cigarettes, and 450 packages of safety matches were seized.

Troyer acknowledged positive progress, noting increased compliance among stakeholders, ensuring the delivery of quality products to consumers.

He emphasized the GNBS’s commitment to raising awareness about quality standards and encouraging stakeholders to align with their guidelines.

The GNBS will continue conducting surveillance exercises across the country to remove substandard products and unapproved measuring instruments from the retail trade, safeguarding consumer interests.
