The Desert Flower Guyana Glow for Mental Health Out of the Shadows Awareness Walk took place on Saturday, attracting around 500 participants in a collective effort to promote mental health awareness.

The event aimed to shift the conversation about mental health, bringing it out of the shadows and into the light.

British High Commissioner to Guyana, Jane Miller, highlighted the importance of such initiatives in raising awareness and supporting individuals facing mental health challenges.

Participants echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing that the event is a vital step in normalizing conversations about mental health.

Desert Flower – Guyana, a mental health-focused organization, played a key role in the event.

Wendy Seepersaud, the organization’s coordinator, explained that Desert Flower is committed to breaking the stigma surrounding mental health and promoting positive coping mechanisms.

The walk was conducted in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, PAHO/WHO, and UNICEF.

The theme for this year’s walk was “Changing the Narrative on Mental Health,” a call for greater understanding and support for those affected by mental health issues.
