The Guyana Geology and Mines Commission (GGMC) recently hosted a stakeholder engagement to discuss support for small-scale miners.

The meeting focused on the geomorphic analysis and auguring project near Iron Mountain, Central Guyana, which is a collaboration between GGMC and the United States Geological Survey.

The project aims to assist small-scale miners by providing non-invasive exploration techniques to predict gold deposit sites more accurately.

Senior Geologist Javed Baksh highlighted the importance of public-private partnerships in advancing exploration methodologies and ensuring sustainability in small-scale mining.

David Daniels, Chairman of the Small Miners Association, expressed support for the initiative and pledged collaboration to help make the new methodologies a reality.

Alluvial gold mining, which involves extracting gold from river sediments, is a common practice among small-scale miners.
