The Guyana Gold and Diamond Miners Association (GGDMA) recently organized a job fair in Region Six, attracting over 50 eager Berbicians keen on exploring employment opportunities within the mining sector.
The event, held at the Little Rock Suites in New Amsterdam, served as a crucial platform for job seekers to connect with potential employers and delve into the diverse employment prospects available in Guyana’s mining industry.
Attendees had the chance to learn about the latest industry trends, connect with industry professionals, and gain valuable insights into the future growth trajectory of the mining sector.
Minister of Natural Resources, Vickram Bharrat, lauded the initiative taken by the GGDMA, emphasizing the importance of such events in providing avenues for employment diversification.
Minister Bharrat highlighted the vast array of opportunities available within the mining sector beyond gold mining, including prospects in the bauxite industry and quarry sector.
He revealed that the job fair garnered a favorable response, with over 50 individuals expressing interest in various areas within the mining industry.
Minister Bharrat affirmed the government’s commitment to providing training opportunities for these individuals to acquire the necessary skills for employment in the mining sector.
Furthermore, Avalon Jagnandan, Administrator at the GGDMA, outlined the next steps following the job fair, stating that mining agencies would proceed to shortlist applicants based on their qualifications and interests.
Jagnandan underscored the mining sector’s vital contribution to Guyana’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and reaffirmed its status as a vibrant and integral component of the nation’s economy.
