As part of Occupational Safety and Health Month 2024, the Guyana Fire Service (GFS) has conducted countrywide musters across all its fire stations, emphasizing the importance of ensuring safe and healthy work environments in a changing climate.

During these musters, firefighters and Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) underwent thorough inspections to ensure they are properly equipped with their Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

This equipment is essential for their safety during emergency operations.

Acting Chief Fire Officer Gregory Wickham, addressing officers at ‘A’ Division’s Headquarters, stressed the critical role of PPE in ensuring the safety of both firefighters and the citizens they serve.

He emphasized that without adequate protection, firefighters would be unable to effectively carry out their duties and protect those in distress.

Chief Wickham expressed gratitude to all officers and ranks for their dedication, praising the impressive turnout at the musters.

He assured those who may not have access to all required PPE that the necessary equipment would be provided to them.

Furthermore, Wickham reaffirmed the Guyana Fire Service’s commitment to its mission of protecting lives and property from fires.

The musters serve as a testament to this dedication, highlighting the GFS’s ongoing efforts to prioritize occupational safety and health.

As Occupational Safety and Health Month continues, initiatives like these underscore the importance of proactive measures to ensure the well-being of all frontline responders and workers.
